stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

We found Cody Wignall's stolen bike at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop at 4500 S 80 E in SLC.  The bike was hidden in the warehouse.  Force your way into the warehouse with a camara find your bike, take pictures and call the police.   There is another person who found his stolen bike at the same pawn shop.

They are selling the bikes on eBay and claiming the bike is in Denver.  Further down on the eBay listing shows the bike in Murray Utah.

Re: stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

    Good news:

About a year ago, I had a $2,500 bike stolen and I searched all the pawn shops in Murray where I live. Jumpin Jack Cash had an employee who really perked up when I said what kind of bike I was looking for.

I registered it with the county and sherrif, so it was recovered eventually.

     Hope these dogs get nailed.

    Bruce, Cody,

E-mail ebay and have that guy shut down!  If he is selling your bike I am sure he is selling a lot more!!  E-bay will do it and they are very serious about this sort of thing!  Give them the item number and the police report info!!  Getting rid of guys like this makes ebay (and the world) a better place!

My wife has eBay connections. She sent along the details of this problem to the right people. Not sure what you can expect from eBay's end, but it'll be on their radar. You might contact their fraud department to see what you can do to help get this person/business prosecuted (selling stolen goods across state lines is likely a Federal offense).

Re: stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

The detective handling the case contacted eBay with the details.  The detective did say the the pawn shop people are experts in dealing with stolen merchandise and they find ways to continue their fraud.  The only way to catch these crooks is to find the listing, trace it to a pawn shop and get a the police to obtain a search warrant and storm the pawnshop warehouse.  I don't think you will find the bike on the pawn shop public showroom floor.

Tell your wife thank you.  Our detective handling the case also contacted eBay.

    Thanks

Re: stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

    Mr. Wingall,

I was sorry to hear of your loss but would like to clear up a few things if I may.  Jumping Jack Cash is not in the business of taking in stolen goods.  However it does happen.  All proper documentaion on your bike was delivered to the police when this bike was taken in and the proper time had elapsed for them to do a check on the serial number.  After the 10 day hold period had elapsed the bike was placed on ebay as most high end bicycles are in our company.  Our company is based out of Denver where we have an office that handles all ebay listings.  Yes your bike remained in the Murray location but to get it off ebay we needed to contact our Denver office.  When the manager of the Murray store contacted our ebay person after talking to the detective it was past the time allowed by ebay to cancel the auction.  We then bid on the bicycle to insure it's return to you.  We have had over 35000 auctions sold on ebay with a 99% feedback company wide.  If selling stolen merchandise was a habit this would not be the case.  Ebay would have shut us down along time ago.  In this industry we do have stolen articles come in but for the victim that had the item stolen it is often the only way they will ever see their property again.  I just wish that when my bike was stolen a few years ago they would have pawned it so I could have gotten my bike returned to me as yours was returned to you.

Re: stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

    Dear Lindsey,

I'm not Mr. Wignall, but nevertheless would like to express my thanks for clearing up the misconception I've shared with millions of people on this subject.

It is apparent now that pawn shops (and other businesses with the word "cash" in their name), their owners and loyal employees are not in the business of ripping people off and are genuinely sorry to hear about other people's losses. It is also refreshing to hear that you allowed the police "the proper time" to do a check on the serial number. I'm sure the authorities are most grateful for your unwavering cooperation and the services that Jumpin' Jack Cash provides to our community. We can only hope that the police were as committed to fighting crime as you seem to be. Indeed, I'm sure that Ebay would immediately shut down any questionable operation as their responsibility to the shareholders pales in comparison to the commitment they have to the buying public. That's why there's hardly any stolen merchandise on Ebay. It makes me wonder what those 350 or so negative ratings were all about.

Anyways, thanks again for clarifying the important role that pawn shop play in our lives. I hope I see a Jumpin' Jack Cash in my neighborhood soon. I'll be able to sleep better knowing that if my bike is stolen we have a team of committed pawn shop employees go out of their way to try to retrieve it.

     Sincerely,

     Piotr S.

P.S. I hope you can soon afford to move your Denver office to the Cayman Islands.

Another stolen bike was found in the back room of Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop.  Please get the word out to everyone who had their bike stolen to get the police to help them investigate Jumping Jacks in Murray Ut.  Those guys are dopes, thier guilty, their fundng drug money for the other dope heads who steal the bikes.  These guys don't report the s/n of the bikes they take in as the law requires.  If your bike is stolen, get the police and shove the periscope up Jumping Jacks Ass!

Did you find Matt Longson's Trek Madone there? There was an alert placed up on the Bad Ass Coffee bike team Facebook page to keep an eye out for it.

Re: stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

My son's 2008 Specialized Sequoia 46cm was recently stolen. We immediately reported the bike stolen with the Sandy City Police. I made up flyers and took them to pawn shops 4 days later. I went to to Jumpin Jack Cash in Midvale and one of the employees told me they had the bike but she would not let me see it. She also told me that my description was dead on because we had upgrade the shifters/ crankset etc.. It is strange though, I have the serial number from the bike shop we bought it from, but they either typoed the SN in their computer system, or intentionally left numbers out so the SN would NOT be reported correctly to the police.

So I have contacted the Sandy city police and told them that we are very sure that the bike is at Jumpin Jack Cash in Midvale, but I have not heard back yet. I found this thread by just googling Jumping Jack Cash. It is my opinion that they know they are receiving stolen goods and have little loopholes for reselling them.

So those of you who have had your bike stolen and identified it at JJC, how long did it take for the police to recover it?
