We had another great year! The weather turned out hot again for the Friday afternoon ciruit race. We have continued to grow in numbers...Thank you so much for all of those that came and participated in this 'stage-race' event. It looks like next year we will be able to ad primes to the event. Our IT person has finally posted a link to the photos on our website home page...sorry for that delay. Hope to see you all next year! Bring a friend, and the rest of your team, so we can increase the depth of the competition. Please continue to give us your feed-back and suggestions so that we can strive to keep it a great event.

Bald Mountain Pass on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway opened last Friday, June 4th. The 22nd annual High Uintas Classic is almost here! We have completed our pre-race planning for this classic stage race. Your safety is our number one priority. One week remains for online registration at sportsbaseonline.com. With warmer, drier weather predicted in the long-range forecast, we are hoping for a record turnout. $8,000 is up for grabs by licensed racers. Shorter Tour de Park City Course for 2010 and on

Just wanted to let everyone know the Tour de Park City course has been shortend by 22 miles to 148 instead of 170. The change was made to make the race more enticing to all categories. The change was also made to ease some of the pressure on the city of Kamas as well as take out some of the nasty turns to get into Park City.

The result is a longer but doable race that is still freaking hard but not so long. The finish is downhill from Bald Mountain to Coalville where the event starts and finishes.

Category Question

Hello all;

I just moved here from out of state. While looking at the UCA racing categories in which I could race next year, I am a bit perplexed. Using my age and experience as indicators, it appears I am eligible to race in four different categories in 2010 (barring any bylaw changes). So, out of Masters 35+, Masters 35+ B, Cat 5, and Cat 5 B, in which category should I race? I would greatly appreciate a fellow racer, more knowledgeable in the Utah racing scene, to briefly outline these potential categories. that way I (and perhaps others like me) can make an informed decision for next year.

Miss information regarding travel time to MMP

I have a few cyclist call me asking about travel time from the SLC metro area to Miller Motorsports Park and what they were told by someone within racing coummity was false. From Energy Solutions Arena it is 30 minutes, from Jeramy Ranch in Park City where I live the trip is 50 minutes from 9000 and I15 35-40 minutes. That is driving not more than 5 over the speed limit.

Change in start times at East Canyon

There were a number of Masters 35B riders that missed their start time due to an "unannounced change" in the start times at yesterday's East Canyon Road Race. According to the Sports-Am web site, the race was scheduled to start at 10:00 am with riders off in 5 minute intervals. The Masters 35Bs should have been going at 10:35 and instead were sent out at 10:05.

When riders questioned the start time at the start line the chief referee said that it didn't matter what was posted on the web site. The change was made last year and it was the same this year. It was unfortunate that a number of riders had paid their money, driven all the way to East Canyon and weren't able to compete with their start group because of an unannounced change in the start time. I for one was out doing my warm up and just happened to come back in to my car for a moment and heard the call, "35Bs to the line."

I'm okay with a change as long as everyone is informed or has an opportunity to be informed. The web site was incorrect. There was no mention of it in the packet I received (number and timing chip only were the only things in the packet) and no e-mail. How should riders have known about the change?

Given that this was just the Masters 35B group, there may not be too much said, but I'll bet if this were the Cat 1-2s, or the Masters 35 or Masters 45s, it would be a huge deal. Every rider from Cat 1 to Citizen should be given the same treatment - proper information, race sanctioned support and a safe environment to compete in.

Greetings fellow cyclists,

I recently took a road trip through your beautiful state and managed
to lose my Garmin Edge 705 somewhere between Salt Lake City and Moab.
I used it Monday, April 5th in downtown SLC and noticed it was missing
Thursday, April 8th when I was getting ready to ride in SLC again. In
between, I drove down to Moab but didn't do any rides where I bothered
using the Garmin. Please contact me if you happens to find it or
notice someone selling a bare unit (no mounts or accessories). I'll
be happy to pay a reward if I can get it back in working condition.

The easiest way to tell that this is my unit is to check the location
for "home". If "home" is the corner of Spring and Boren in downtown
Seattle, it's mine. Please help my Garmin find it's way home... :)

stolen bikes are sold at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop

We found Cody Wignall's stolen bike at Jumping Jacks Cash pawn shop at 4500 S 80 E in SLC. The bike was hidden in the warehouse. Force your way into the warehouse with a camara find your bike, take pictures and call the police. There is another person who found his stolen bike at the same pawn shop.

They are selling the bikes on eBay and claiming the bike is in Denver. Further down on the eBay listing shows the bike in Murray Utah.

UCA Awards Banquet

Please plan to attend the UCA Awards Banquet next Thursday, October 22nd. The deadline to reserve a meal is next Monday, October 19th. You MUST pre-register if you want to purchase a meal, however, you can attend the party anyway, if you don't want to eat.

This year, we are combining the UCA awards with the Crit Series... it should be a lot of fun! We have tried to keep the costs down so more people can attend. The meals are only $14.00 each this year.

We will be awarding the top 3 in each UCA category, as well as the top overall UCA team. If you are in the top 3 in your category please plan to attend. Invite your team, family and friends. This should be a killer event!

Note: we would appreciate it if the leader's jerseys can be returned to UCA. The Banquet would be a convenient opportunity to do this. Otherwise, contact Jeff Clawson. Please wash them. We do not have a provision to let you keep them, but if you think this is something you want in future years, propose it on the 2010 Bylaw Amendments Forum for the membership to debate. Obviously, this is an expense to the membership.

Just a quick note...The UCA series and the Crit series, for a lot of us out here is the highlight of our week. So a big "Thank You" to everyone who has a hand in it. I know that a lot of extra time goes into it so that we can enjoy racing our bikes and I'm thankful to everyone who makes it happen every year. I'm looking forward to another great year next year!

Any Criterium training classes/session?

I have been kicking around the idea of getting into criterium, but was curious if anyone held any training classes for newbs? I have been riding for a few years and completed a few ULCER events, but think that my day to day distance riding is not preparing me for the quick short bursts of speed in a crit.

Any assistance would be much appreciated!
